Turnkey AdSense site economics
So as I'm sitting here in front of my computer having my lunch (baguette and a lovely taleggio) and browsing Technorati's AdSense section, I'm struck again by how many people are offering turnkey AdSense sites for sale. Pop over to eBay and you'll see even more. Prices and number of sites seem to be all over the map. In the span of a few minutes I see:
- 190 sites for $49.95 ($0.26 per site)
- 150 sites for $99.95 ($0.67 per site)
- 150 sites for $89.99 ($0.59 per site)
- 300 sites for $99.95 ($0.33 per site)
- 1 site for $9.95 ($9.95 per site!! very poor deal!)
- 300 sites for $179.95 ($0.60 per site)
- 171 sites for $3.95 ($0.02 per site)
- 150 sites for $5.99 ($0.04 per site)
Well, that's probably enough for now… Looking at this list, I can only conclude one thing:
I'm done with being a content producer. I'm going to stop writing this blog and devote my time to creating ready-made AdSense sites for sale to others. Goodbye!
Just kidding… And there are other truly “turnkey” operations where all you do is choose a niche and they go and build and host a site for you and let you rake in the profits…
Q: If these sites are so profitable, why are they selling them? Why aren't they hiring people at say $10/hour to research more niches and create more sites?
A: … because it's easy money with hardly any work involved.
Let me explain. To get started in this business you need four things:
- A set of AdSense sites you create (work) or resell rights to a set of sites someone else created (much less work and not much money)
- A website for the sales page
- A free account at Payloadz or ClickBank (note that while ClickBank signup is free, you pay a one-time fee to get a product listed)
- An advertising budget
Prepare the sales page, upload the product, set a price, start advertising… it usually only takes a few sales to turn a profit. No wonder so many people are doing it now. This is actually less work than deploying, monitoring and promoting all those individual sites — and less expensive if you're buying separate domains for each site instead of going the subdomain route.
The only thing I can conclude is that if you are really interested in buying such a system for your own use, you should definitely shop around. Start with eBay, it seems to be the cheapest place to find these sites. You can even find products with resell rights there — a quick look and I found a 155 site package with resell rights for $2.99. Either way, I think paying more than $0.05 per site is a mistake.
What a funny business we're in…. and the continual media frenzy about AdSense is only going to stoke the fires for these kinds of products.
Sponsored Link: Speaking of Payloadz, I have a short e-book for sale that might interest you. It's called Understanding the AdSense Patent and it's only $14.95. Graywolf liked it, I'm sure you will, too. You can buy it directly from Payloadz or from eBay.
P.S.: A new issue of my AdSense newsletter is coming out today, with more discussion about the whole “tag and ping” system and a new review of Multiple Streams of Internet Income. Subscribe today!
