The new AdSense wizard sucks
Alright, I've suffered with it long enough, let me state my opinion in public: the new AdSense Setup tab in the management console really gets in the way of experienced AdSense users. While I can appreciate Google's desire to cater to AdSense newbies, they should have left the old settings page in there as an option for those of us who've been around the block already. (Heck, why doesn't Google just ship out a copy of my book to new AdSense publishers? That would solve the problem!) I can't tell you how many times in the past I'd do this sequence of events:
- Right-click the AdSense Notifier to bring up the console
- Quickly set a few key settings
- Cut and paste the code
It was always very quick. In fact, sometimes I was just interested in getting the code for one specific setting, such as the channel (and only because channels are encoded as numbers and not referenced by name), and using that to change some AdSense code I already had lying around in one of my templates.
Now, I have no idea if anyone from Google reads this blog (doubtful), so if the console change bugs you, please send mail to inside-adsense@google.com and ask them to resurrect the old page as an option for advanced users. I do think it's great that they're making it easier for newbies, I just want things to be easier for me, too.
