The Death of Internet Marketing or the Reduction of Gullible Saps?

Internet marketer Mike Filsaime, of Butterfly Marketing fame, has released a “controversial” free report called The Death of Internet Marketing. (A lot of deaths lately, maybe we need a vaccine?) In his 58-page document, Mike describes why current marketing methods for the Internet marketing niche — not Internet marketing in general, but the niche of people who are interested in Internet marketing — are failing. The basic premise is that too many marketers are chasing the same group of people, who are feeling overwhelmed by all the product launches and specials being offered by marketers on all their lists. And it seems like all the marketers are friends with each other, doesn't it?

Saying people are overwhelmed is putting a positive spin on the reality that the pond of gullible fish is getting smaller, isn't it? As more and more people discover things like AdSense and affiliate marketing, more and more marketers have plowed into the market, teaching people various methods of making more money. You can tell this has been happening because many marketers are switching from e-books to videos. Witness Michael Cheney's AdSense videos and his new 11 Days To List Profits. That to me is a sign that the market's been dumbing down. Maybe that's a harsh assessment… but I think there's some truth there. And if the market's been dumbing down, well, yes, you could say that they're trying to reach a larger pool of people, but I bet that larger pool just doesn't buy as much…. and there are so many people trying to serve them now.

In any case, Mike's report gives you strategies to follow if you want to “survive” in 2007. Maybe he's right. I don't know, I'm not a conventional Internet marketer. The most interesting part of the report to me was his story about the legal problems he ran into when he bought resale rights to a couple of products. I mentioned this back in Part 2 of my private label rights series, which you might want to re-read.

The report has been released in order to build Mike a large mailing list, of course. He's paying affiliates $1 for each new signup, which is pretty hefty.

So go ahead, everyone, and download the report and make me a few bucks :-)
