Take the Twitter Pledge
Twitter is a neat platform for sharing ideas and news, but it’s being overwhelmed by personal nonsense and marketing pitches. If you’re a Twitter user, you can help the situation by taking The Twitter Pledge:
“I pledge to only write informative or funny tweets and to refrain from posting irrelevant personal details.”
Read how you can help banish inanity from Twitter by taking the pledge and keep it a useful tool for public discourse.

Twitter is becoming full of spam and I would like to join you in taking the Twitter pledge. Somehow I doubt this is really going to stop all the spam though. Twitter users who are tired of all the spam should get their voices heard and try and get Twitter ti incorporate some sort of filtering system.
While Twitter has actually been good for business, it really is annoying how much white noise is present. It would be really nice if they could institute channels you could subscribe to and then boot those who infect with rubbish…. nice idea. Thanks for sharing.
Surprised how much crap gets published from the people I follow.
I took the pledge
Haha. I love it. “Banish Insanity from Twitter.” That’s just awesome.
I don’t use Twitter. Tried it, but I really can’t stand the personal blabber, let alone the, uhm, excessive endorsement of goods and services (trying hard to avoid the word spam here).
The plegde seems to be step in the right direction, though. If followed.
Awesome Idea, that is the first time I have read the pledge. I always get annoyed reading about how this person is doing their dishes or vacuuming.
Haha, thats hilarious, banish insanity from twitter, but yes, I’ve taken the pledge
I love the pledge, thank you! So far I haven’t been impressed with Twitter due to all the useless blather I have to wade through to find worthwhile tweets. I’ll do my part by taking the pledge!
I agree. I dont care if someone is cold, thirsty or tired. I don’t think it will stop unless users block each other. It is too easy to follow people.
It’s worse than the Facebook status updates. Can’t anyone do anything without telling the world about it? I mean come on, it’s fascinating your eating a meatball sub but I think I have better things to do.
I’m pretty new to twitter and agree that there’s a lot of questionable chatter. But I like the fact that Twitter doesnt set any rules for what users can tweet about and what not. I think its the whole point of this system. If you dont like what someone has to say just dont follow that person or unfollow. Simple!
It would be really nice if they could institute channels you could subscribe to and then boot those who infect with rubbish…. nice idea.
Great idea! I take the pledge! I also think it would be a great idea to have “channels” that you could subscribe to.
I’ve taken the pledge. I actually just made a post about how I use Twitter (and how I *don’t* use Twitter) today. Rest assured, unimportant personal updates was on my *DO NOT* list.

I have to agree, I’ve seen more and more rubbish and blatant self promotion appearing on Twitter of late.
The pledge is a really great idea.
Oh man, I simply do not get the huge twitter buzz.
twitter is, 99% of the times a huge pile of boredom and self centeredness.
Wow, that came out bitter. sorry
frankly I do not think very useful twitter … just the celebrities of the show can be followed.
I prefer to express my ideas in the social network, very useful
I joined Twitter awhile ago, a little cautious at first, but then come to find that Twitter is a great way to get traffic to your websites.
I found myself targeted followers to my niche, and Twitter is now my 3rd major source of traffic generation to my websites.
I usually mix advertisements and personal tweets, so as to not look all spammy.
Regards,
Daniel

I would take the pledge if I was registered there. I don’t think I am getting the big fuss about Twitter. Who cares what I or anybody else is doing right now… except Shaquille O’Neal hehehe… he made it all famous and worth while
Haha. Very good pledge. I have to tweet that pledge!
I have been using Twitter since last year and there is no doubt that in the last 3/4 months it has just become one big advertising forum. I was a huge fan and twittered a lot but now I am scratching my head wondering how it will ever become anything more than that?
That’s why I don’t read 80% of the twitts on my dashboard. And I also think this is a waste of time. Between refreshes my inbox is invaded, so I gave up a long time ago reading everything.
I. . . state your name. . .pledge to . . .
That pledge should pop up as soon as someone signs up for twitter.
@Kev in, good plan!
I was pretty resistant to the Twitter movement for awhile (because of all the spam) and just recently signed up. I am using it as a way to keep my website subscribers updated if they are already on Twitter. I will see how it goes.
I don’t know, the entire point of Twitter was social networking originally. It was designed to be short updates about the random things going on in people’s lives, and it became popular because people DID want to read about other people. Then the spam exploded on it, bring it useless to the average user without getting loads on Direct Messages about some hair loss product.
In the end, don’t complain because there were some people who used it the way it was designed to be use. If you want to complain about the spam, then i’m on the same boat
Marketing and affiliate tweets are really getting annoying on twitter. While being a micro-blogging platform, people can still leverage the power of twitter for Internet Marketing, if they simply learn how to effectively craft their “pitch tweets” with normal tweets.
