Review: How To Avoid The Marketing Nightmare
Yesterday, one of my dogs — Dino, star of my Pet Fence Guide — turned 16. That’s not why I’m posting this, but I thought it worthy of note. Not many dogs reach that age. He even predates my wife! I doubt he’ll make it another year, but so far he’s in reasonably good health for his age. My daughter will be especially crushed the day he dies.
Anyhow, on to today’s subject… a product promotion! Big surprise, how many emails do you get a day telling you to buy something? I don’t do that very often, though, because I don’t like to promote crap. And ever since the Project Black Mask disappointment I decided to not whole-heartedly promote any product without having seen it first. Generally that’s what I do anyhow — I purchase a product and do a review of it — but I promoted PBM based entirely on the previous projects the creator had done and that turned out to be a mistake. So never again.
A few months ago you may remember that I recommended an ebook by Tahir Shah called Dreams Not For Sale. What I liked about was that it was a very realistic look at one popular method to build a viable online business, the method that most experts/gurus recommend — building a mailing list. The book was very holistic in its approach, talking about “why” you need to do things a certain way, not just “how”. But it also gave you several concrete steps to take, steps that I doubt many people actually do because they take time and money.
My review sold a few books for Tahir, and so he invited me to preview his latest product, an online marketing course called How To Avoid The Marketing Nightmare, or TMN for short. You can view a short video overview of the course on the home page. If you sign up for TMN mailing list you get access to a longer video as well as a report describing what the course is all about. The report’s completely free to distribute, however, so I’ve made it available here so you can read it without having to sign up for anything. You should definitely look at the free video, though, because the course is delivered primarily via the same format. By watching the video and reading the report you should be able to tell if this course is for you.
What Is The Marketing Nightmare?
So what exactly is How To Avoid The Marketing Nightmare? First of all, it’s not a course about Internet marketing techniques. You won’t learn about the latest and greatest flash-in-the-pan methods for generating quick amounts of cash. TMN is actually more of a motivational course than anything else. It’s designed to get you off your butt and DOING something about your online business.
The course consists of six modules. Each module is delivered as a video, an audio and a PDF. The modules are:
- The Mental Nightmare
- The Knowledge Nightmare
- The Action Nightmare
- The Communication Nightmare
- The Sales Nightmare
- The Money Nightmare
For each module you watch the video first to get an overview of the general problem being tackled by the module. You then listen to the audio for more details and for strategies of how to avoid that particular “nightmare”. The PDF further reinforces what you’ve seen in the video and listened to in the audio.
You also get a bonus 80-minute audio interview with an experienced Internet marketer describing various no-nonsense marketing tips and techniques.
So far I’ve see the videos for the first, third and sixth modules, and here are some details on what they’re about.
Module 1: The Mental Nightmare
The Mental Nightmare module describes the “10 deadly components” that “inhibit or even kill success”. These are:
- fear
- worry
- indecision
- impatience
- lack of confidence
- self view
- lack of concentration
- current situation
- bad online experience
- external negative influence
Right away you can see what I mean about this course not being your typical “here’s the latest Internet marketing technique” type book or course. If you think it reads more like a self-help book, you’re right.
The module describes each of the 10 components listed above, going into great detail about the causes of each and why you need to overcome them. The audio part of the module describes strategies for doing just that.
Module 3: The Action Nightmare
The “Action Nightmare” is what “prevents people from doing what they NEED to do in order to GROW and EXPAND their online business”. It, too, has a number of factors associated with it:
- lack of knowledge
- lack of tools
- lack of motivation
- getting bogged down
- procrastination
- past failures
- no time
- no money
Again, the audio part describes these all in more detail and presents strategies to overcome them.
Module 6: The Money Nightmare
The “Money Nightmare” is all about online wealth creation, describing key areas that affect how much money you make as an Internet marketer:
- wasting money
- saving money
- making money
- investing money in assets
This material is similar to what you’d find in a book like “Rich Dad, Poor Data” and in fact Tahir recommends you read that particular book. But of course he gives it an online spin, such as how investing in a professional autoresponder can be considered an asset while buying non-targeted advertising is a liability.
Is TMN For You?
I’m one of those types of people that doesn’t generally put a lot of stock in motivational-type programs. I find them too “fluffy”. That’s why I like this course — although it’s not talking about specific online marketing techniques, it does relate everything back to Internet marketing. If you’ve been finding that your path to online success has been “blocked” for various reasons, I can see that working through all the modules and doing the things it tells you to do will transform your whole outlook and approach to Internet marketing. I don’t think any course or book can guarantee you success, but if you’ve been needing a firm kick in the behind to get you going (which I have, to be honest) then the work and effort that Tahir and his partner Chris Freeman have put into these modules — and, having produced things like this myself, I know that these take a LOT of work to do — is going to pay off for you in the long term. This is one of the few courses I’ve seen that’s actually worth the money. Especially if you follow through with what it tells you to do!
If this kind of course interests you, please read the report and watch the overview video. There are a limited number of copies available at the introductory price, but there’s no point in rushing into it. It’s being sold through ClickBank, however, so remember that means you get 8 weeks to try it out and return it for a full refund if it’s not satisfactory. I don’t see TMN getting as many refund requests as I saw with Project Black Mask, though, because there’s real value in this course. As Tahir points out, although over 10,000 people bought “Day Job Killer”, how many of those have actually gone on to quit their day jobs? Just a fraction, if any. Because knowing the techniques isn’t enough. It’s going out and doing everything necessary to implement them that’s the hard work. You can only automate and outsource so much. At some point you have to sit down and decide to do it, and then follow through.
How To Avoid The Marketing Nightmare isn’t for everyone, but if you need motivation and inspiration, it’s probably right for you.

This online marketing course looks like it addresses more than the typical “fluffy” motivational stuff that passes for business advice. I particularly like the topics about getting bogged down and wasting money; we have all lived through those nightmares. I am skeptical about the format of an online course. It seems like this information would be more credible if it was published in a book.
I agree with the blog article, marketing could be a nightmare especailly for new webmasters. But keep on trying for the new ones and old ones.
