In the source code to the script you can see that this script came from a German programmer, who sells it (for a more expensive price) on his own site. I'm not surprised there's a free equivalent available somewhere, but this one works nicely and installs easily so I didn't mind paying for it...

This script is very old in a new package. With a little effort, it can be found for free if you search a little through Google. I think it's pretty cool for someone to have thought of something that's unique, innovative, and unobtrusive. Anyone who finds it "annoying" is just way too uptight. It doesn't prevent you from doing anything and it doesn't get in the way, and it generally takes up a very small space that is ordinarily unused.

Hah, you're right... hadn't noticed that one! Not my graphic, unfortunately, and I think it's too much effort for me to try and fix it with PaintShop Pro....

I didn't even notice it because I've got the firefox flashblock Add-on so Flash things will only run with my explicit permission (you click the arrow in the square where the flash would be had it not been blocked).

I don't tend to hover around in that part of the screen anyway, so I don't think they're too intrusive.

Britt, the script invocation itself is fine, it's just a normal "script" tag. The JavaScript inserts some simple HTML into the page, mostly to embed the Flash player. If it's not compliant (haven't checked) it's very easy to fix.

Paul, I haven't had any issues myself with it. Maybe I just don't move over to that side of the page that often :-)

I think it looks a bit tacky, and it's *extremely* annoying if you happen to roll your mouse over it (I guess that's part of the point, but having to actively avoid it when I move my mouse into that area of the screen is incredibly annoying). Personally I'd say if you want it, wait a while and someone will probably write an open source script which you can use for free.
