Peel Away Ads

I’ve been having some fun with a new software product called Peel Away Ads, whose launch has been in all the Project Black Mask excitement. You can see an example of a peel away ad right here on this site — look in the top right corner of the page and you’ll see a little “page curl” that says “CLICK HERE”. Move your mouse over it and the page curl “expands” out to a little ad for Uncommon AdSense, my AdSense ebook that I’ve fashioned.

Anyhow, the software works well but they could have designed it a bit better so that you don’t have to edit the JavaScript file to change the peel settings. And they could have included better instructions in the package.

So what I’ve done is grabbed resale rights to the package and am selling it directly via PayPal for only $25, which is less than the retail price of $37 on the main Peel Away Ads website. As a bonus, I’m including a slightly modified script that is easier to use (in my opinion) plus a PDF with some more detailed instructions on how to use the ads so that you can do the same thing I’m doing on this site.

You get the full package when you buy this: the main script, a rotating ad script, and an affiliate script. You also get access to some videos that show you how to install and modify the scripts, though these aren’t as important with my instructions.

To grab your copy, just press the PayPal order button below. I think you’ll be happy with the software, it works quite well. If you have any questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to answer them. You can get more details about Peel Away Ads on the main Peel Away Ads site, but buy it here.

    That is slick!!

I can see the Novelty of it being very popular - i can see where adding a Lottery element to this would go over HUGE!!

remindz me of another innovative Ad technique http://www.boo-box.com/html/en/

    ;))

Nice find, Eric. Have to give it a little more thought before I jump into it, but it’s certainly innovative and something a little different, for a change. As Billy says, I see a tremendous “lottery” aspect … people love lotteries and “scratch off” promos, even the ones who pride themselves on never clicking on obvious “ads”.

    Hi Eric,

I love it! I only have one concern - it seems that the script doesn’t validate: http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.memwg.com%2Fpeel-away-ads%2F

Is this something that could relatively easy be corrected?

I think it looks a bit tacky, and it’s *extremely* annoying if you happen to roll your mouse over it (I guess that’s part of the point, but having to actively avoid it when I move my mouse into that area of the screen is incredibly annoying). Personally I’d say if you want it, wait a while and someone will probably write an open source script which you can use for free.

Britt, the script invocation itself is fine, it’s just a normal “script” tag. The JavaScript inserts some simple HTML into the page, mostly to embed the Flash player. If it’s not compliant (haven’t checked) it’s very easy to fix.

Paul, I haven’t had any issues myself with it. Maybe I just don’t move over to that side of the page that often :-)

I didn’t even notice it because I’ve got the firefox flashblock Add-on so Flash things will only run with my explicit permission (you click the arrow in the square where the flash would be had it not been blocked).

I don’t tend to hover around in that part of the screen anyway, so I don’t think they’re too intrusive.

The word “attention” is misspelled on the graphic of the of the box for the Peel Away Ad software

Hah, you’re right… hadn’t noticed that one! Not my graphic, unfortunately, and I think it’s too much effort for me to try and fix it with PaintShop Pro….

This script is very old in a new package. With a little effort, it can be found for free if you search a little through Google. I think it’s pretty cool for someone to have thought of something that’s unique, innovative, and unobtrusive. Anyone who finds it “annoying” is just way too uptight. It doesn’t prevent you from doing anything and it doesn’t get in the way, and it generally takes up a very small space that is ordinarily unused.

In the source code to the script you can see that this script came from a German programmer, who sells it (for a more expensive price) on his own site. I’m not surprised there’s a free equivalent available somewhere, but this one works nicely and installs easily so I didn’t mind paying for it…
