Invisible Fence update
Regular readers might remember how a while back I received a 5-page fax from the lawyers for Invisible Fence who disliked the way I was using their trademarks in the Invisible Fence Guide (now called the Pet Fence Guide). I changed the site around to address most of their issues and that was that.
Of course, the lawyers don't talk to the marketing department, do they? Just a few days ago I received an email from someone at Invisible Fence:
I came across your Pet Fence Guide site the other day and enjoyed reading it – I feel like you give people a good insight into the experience and value of Invisible Fence Brand products and services.
They want me to link back to their site so that readers can easily find out more about Invisible Fence brand products, since “you have ads to many of our competitors on the site”. I had a nice discussion wiht them about the site and so on. Very pleasant.
Of course, two days later the lawyers finally get around to responding to the changes I made to the site. Apparently they're not quite happy yet because:
- I still use “Invisible Fence” in my meta tags, and
- The old invisible-fence.ericgiguere.com domain still shows up in Google
Now I don't want to be picky, but the point of meta tags is to describe the content of the page, and that whole site is about Invisible Fence products. And the listing in Google really isn't my fault anymore, I'm doing proper redirects from the old subdomain to the new one. So there's nothing for me to change.
I hope this is the end of this little saga. I'm glad to see that the marketing department thinks the site is useful as a sales tool for potential customers. Now if only the lawyers would stop bugging me…
