Google Publishes Search Volume Data
Here’s something very useful to all of us: Google has finally released search volume numbers in the AdWords keyword tool. (You don’t have to join AdWords to use the tool, so everyone has access to the data.)
For example, I entered teacup and got this back for the first three entries:
| Term | June Search Volume | Average Search Volume |
| teacup | 550,000 | 673,000 |
| teacup puppies | 110,000 | 110,000 |
| teacup yorkie | 49,500 | 74,000 |
The data changes depending on what kind of search you’re interested in. For life insurance the current numbers are 2,740,000 for broad, 2,240,000 for phrase, and 201,000 for exact. (See here for explanations of broad/phrase/exact.)
Note that these numbers are derived from searches done both on Google and on the search network. It doesn’t include the content network (AdSense).
I’m sure all the keyword scrapers are super busy recoding their programs. Hmm…. I was looking for some cool tool ideas…

When I use the tool, I don’t see numbers — only bar charts showing low to high volume. Where did you get the numbers?
It’s there on my view of the tool. There’s only one bar now and two new columns to the left of the bar showing search volume numbers.
I suspect you’re just not seeing it yet because of the data center you’re using. Google has a habit of rolling out changes over several hours or even days. Wait a bit and I’m sure you’ll start seeing the data.
I don’t see it either - but thats awesome!
Hey Eric,
Same old green bars are all I get…

same here. I’m in Indonesia, and can’t see any numbers
I’m not seeing the change yet either.
Hopefully it will come in the next few days like you mentioned as they do rollouts with some changes.
This would be very beneficial!
It looks like they’ve backed off the change, at least for now. I’m not seeing any data anymore. Hopefully it will be back soon….
Hi Eric,
I once read about this on the Warrior forum as well. It was the same pattern: numbers showing for a short while and then back to the (good) old green bars.
Oh well..
Hey — the numbers are there now! Use of the service requires entering a capcha word though — tought to automate with a tool . . .
I am seeing numbers. I think it may be only available in the U.S. (or North America) right now, as I’ve heard others from other countries couldn’t see the data. I definitely hope they keep it with numerical values.
I tried again today and it works for me. I’m living in Denmark (Europe) by the way.
I just checked US and Spain version and they both were providing results. I am wondering if that might be an IP issue.
