Google Acquires Principality of Sealand
In an unexpected move that has baffled analysts, Google today announced that it has acquired the Principality of Sealand, a small sovereign micronation off the coast of the United Kingdom. A brief press release was issued, but details were scanty. There is speculation that Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin will be named co-rulers of the principality and that Google CEO Eric Schmidt will be named a Grand Duke.
There is further speculation that the new rulers have plans to expand the HavenCo hosting company, based in the principality, and to use it to host Google's master Web indices as a way to keep governments from interfering with Google's mission to index and classify all data.
I'll post further information here as soon as I know more.
