And I’m Back…
Actually, I’ve been back for a few days, but I’ve been busy. Some things to note:
- Had a great time in Paris. The waiters are as cranky as usual (they can afford to be — it’s hard to fire anyone and the tips are automatically added to the bills) and I still don’t know how people afford to live there, but it was a nice vacation.
- I didn’t actually publish anything while I was gone, oh well… watch this space shortly for some new stuff, though.
- I may keep this blog on moderated comments for a while, we’ll see.
- PayPal helpfully unsubscribed me from all my services (again!) when I changed the primary credit card for my account. Moral of the story: don’t change the primary credit card, ever!.
- Google changed the HTML used for its search results pages, which basically broke any software that scraped those results. I’ll be releasing an updated to my Article Gatherer shortly because of this. If you’re an AG customer and not on either the PLRSiteBuilder or Article Gatherer mailing lists, contact me off the list to get your update.
- It looks like Google is putting more emphasis on newer content in determining rankings. For example, the Invisible Fence Guide has recently dropped a couple of notches with no real reason. Adding fresh content is the simplest way to keep your site’s rankings ups, but that can be challenging.
- Canadian AdSense publishers using EFT (electronic funds transfer) for their payments might be seeing some bizarre things in their account right now. The August payment was sent using a 1:1 ratio for Canadian to US dollars, which was wrong — we got underpaid. So they’re doing some bookkeeping magic to correct the problem. You’ll eventually see the amount transferred deducted and then readded to your earnings, with an additional payment being sent to offset the underpayment. You may also see a message stating that your account is on hold because of a failed EFT — don’t panic, that’s how they’re doing the bookkeeping magic. Everything should be corrected in a couple of days.
Back to the real world…

Google Suggest is thought to “completely change the query landscape” because the drop-down box may offer you suggestions that will change your mind on the search phrase you may have aimed to look for initially. The same concerns (capitalization on misspellings and long tail optimization) are brought up in this post as well.
Glad to have you back and glad you’re enjoying Paris. If you do decide to keep comments on moderation write a post about it explaining why, that’s something most bloggers debate.
Nice small update for us all. I know a script I was working on was put on hold due to the Google change in Search results. Also quite excited about newer content being favored for Page Rank as this might get some of the older outdated content out of the mix.
How can this be like this? Imagine…
“it’s hard to fire anyone and the tips are automatically added to the bills) and I still don’t know how people afford to live there, but it was a nice vacation.”
How can restaurants there have people eating their food like that? My god!

I have observed something similar. My spyware related site came to the 2nd place on Google for a specific keyword. Now, it is nowhere to be found! May be Google assumed that the content had gone stale! I will add more content and try to get it back to the top.
Welcome back! I look forward to seeing more of your posts. Hope you enjoyed your time in Paris.
Welcome back and thanks for the tip about PayPal.
Thanks your updated informations on SEO.
I’m glad you noted the importance of new content. I’m constantly amazed at the blogs I visit whose owners only update content once or twice a month.
The whole point of a blog is to update constantly. I post five days a week. And yes it’s sometimes hard to keep up with. It takes a commitment and a plan.
One way I do it is to write series of posts on good keywords. For instance, I’m presently writing on modern advertising methods. I’ve posted on it for five days and will continue at least that much longer.
This approach keeps me from having to think of a completely new idea with a new keyword everyday. It saves keyword research time and assures that I always have something to write about. Some of your readers may find this approach helpful.
Warmly,
Linda P. Morton
@ Linda – That is a pretty good idea, but if you have more than one site that you maintain then having writing a post everyday can be very challenging. Imagine writing 30 posts a day – there just isn’t the time.
Nice to see you back. I look forward for more quality blog posts which you’ve been providing in the past.
Everybody is trying to up her PR, and the answer is really simple, like you say; Fresh and actually content.
Boy, Google is a hard taskmaster…! “Write, slave, write!” (whh-chhhh! [whip sound]).
But what if I have written THE definite article on my particular area – the article to end all articles! Why should I then keep updating it or changing it?! Joking apart, this change of emphasis could backfire, leading to colossal amounts of thin, worthless, keyword-laden content being written in an effort to keep the big G happy.
I suspect the big G knows this and they will continue to place substantial weight on other factors like backlinks… Something to think about though.
Hah, that’s funny…
No, I don’t think the fact that your site is an authority will be discounted by much. I’m sure that if you have tons of links from authoritative sites you won’t be affected much.
I’ve tried adwords for months to promote my new site effectively, i don’t suppose you have any simple tips for me??
Many thanks,

I have a website http://www.cheshireproperty.net and i want to promote it… Any advice?
Thanks salesphone for reminding me that many people maintain more than one blog. It’s challenging for me to come up with five good posts per week.
My series help. (I’ve linked to another one.) But eventually a series runs out and I’m back to doing keyword and content research.
This thread provides some good additional content to the post.

Nice to have you back. Is it really required to update a blog on a daily basis? what i have felt was update a blog as and when it needs to be right. thanks for your updates.
What! Every time I change the primary card on my Paypal account they keep charging my old card for months, prompting the bank to come charging after me.
I’d welcome a simple transition from one card to the next!
I’d agree with your sentiment though, never change primary cards.
