I like Joel, and I think at his root he's a guy who has some core principles. But I do sense that he's drifted off into this alternate internet-marketing universe where "anything goes" as long as it feeds his bottom line. Everything has a price tag. Everything is an offer. Everything involves a JV. It's just not the world where I live. Some years back, I communicated with Joel from time to time. I hired him once for a half-hour phone consult. He's a bright guy. I just think a lot of the little things that make a business a relationship have fallen thru the cracks as he's gotten "big and famous". I've tried to unsubscribe from one of his programs and can't get past the help desk, either. No response. No contact email is available. It's kinda sad. But fortunately, it's not something that involves money...so I just put up with it. In his defense, however, I think he's tried to do things in big and interesting ways. His reality series was a really interesting concept. I'm not a reality TV fan...but I think he was onto something. I'm not sure it connected with an audience...but I think it was a good idea...just possibly lacked something in the execution, and was probably ahead of his time. I do prefer the newer relational business model that's developing with some of the newer folks, instead of the old model, where Joel is heavily invested. This is disappointing. Each month he had another charge on his card. Despite turning it off the system kept charging on his behalf. And he couldn't get a refund on any of it because he never knew about the charge until the following month. Bottom line he spent hours on the phone with customer support and his bank until he finally had to cancel his card and have a new one reissued. Which is exactly why I will not consent to a recurring billing optin for my cable company, Joel Comm or anyone else. Hopefully Joel understands that and wises up soon.
