Joel Comm Releases AdSense Secrets 4.0

It’s been a while since AdSense publishers have heard from Joel Comm, but today Joel has released AdSense Secrets 4.0, the latest version of his bestselling AdSense ebook. I’m downloading it right now as I write this. It’s big — over 200 pages. I’ll post a detailed review later.

The new version costs only $9.95, which is a big price drop from the previous versions. However, some caveats:

So let’s call a spade a spade: this release of AdSense Secrets is really just a way to get people to subscribe to his new physical newsletter. I really dislike the negative billing option. Now I have to remind myself to cancel the subscription in a month. Be happy I took one for the team!

I’m sure the book is good. Too bad you can’t just buy it without the report.

I would like to learn all I can about Adsense, and Joel Comm is a well-known, perceived expert regarding same.

However, it’s patently obvious that the $9.95 price tag is really being used as a lost leader….
Yep, you have to admit, Joel Comm is a real marketer.

However, I don’t think his spiel about “giving back” really rings true here…so I declined his gracious offer.

So Joel jumped onto the bandwagon as well… I see this construction more and more. Cody Moya for instance is constantly sending emails for “free” things that only mean “first month free”, where you have to remember to opt-out again before they start billing.

Internet Marketing is known for not always saying things like they are, but this trend of luring subscribers in is starting to make me ignore the few decent offers in my Inbox as well…

Thanks for your honest review, Eric.

Negative billing by cable companies caused quite a fuss in Canada in the mid-90s, which is why I always look for these kinds of things. The practice is now banned in Canada, though that doesn’t prevent things like this from happening with international orders. I just don’t like it.

Mr. Comm has certainly descended into sleaze ville with this one. All for the all mighty dollar.

I would not ever recommend anyone buy his book as all this info is available online if you care to dig around.

In the 90’s a friend of mine subscribed to Microsoft Gaming Zone. They billed the card monthly when he only wanted a month-long thing. He tried to get off and got all kinds of nice customer support people. But they kept charging his card. He kept calling. Each month he had another charge on his card. Despite turning it off the system kept charging on his behalf. And he couldn’t get a refund on any of it because he never knew about the charge until the following month.

Bottom line he spent hours on the phone with customer support and his bank until he finally had to cancel his card and have a new one reissued.

Which is exactly why I will not consent to a recurring billing optin for my cable company, Joel Comm or anyone else. Hopefully Joel understands that and wises up soon.

I’m gonna pass on Joel’s offer. Frankly, I doubt if I can learn anything from his e-book that I can’t learn right here on MEMWG.com. ;>)

    Hi Eric:

Thx for pointing this out, I missed it when I bought it.

    I had to
    1) It said you had to call and cancel, looked on the site, no number on site

    2) Call Infomedia inc, they said put in ticket with thehelpdesk.us

    3) Create profile on thehelpdesk.us (printing user name and password) site would not let me in, said wrong name or password

    4) try to recreate account on thehelpdesk.us, it said no, user already exists

    5) whois on thehelpdesk.us, call technical contact, 1 970 278 0011 (if you need it) told them to cancel, they said they canceled it (04/17/08 8:39am PST) asked if they could send email verification of cancel for proof, they said no! just that they had canceled it

    6) got home, try to login to thehelpdesk.us, can’t with pre-existing, or trying to create a new one, clicked lost password on email telling me about my new helpdesk account, came back and said user did not exist, which is odd because i replied to email telling me about my account?

really don’t like this method of marketing from them, which is a shame because i had bought the physical book before, and found it useful

    thx eric

(yes, i have also bought eric’s book “make easy money with google” no plug here, it is a very good book though(and nothing like this has happened to me by eric’s hand))

(joel, find your soul, i bought your book, your pdf, and talked to one of your telemarketers)

I bought Adsense, etc v4. In fact I bought it through Eric’s link above. I must have received a half dozen links from the usual suspects promising all kinds of left over PLR free junk, (Does erock sell everything?), but I bought it from Eric.

So far, it is a nice book. I hate the monthly thing and Joel, I will be canceling my monthly like right away so enjoy the no profit you got off my purchase. I would have paid 19.95 for the book, you could have given half to Eric and kept the rest.

I figure you would have make about 100K that way and added more emails to your list. But oh well.

This is disappointing. I like Joel, and I think at his root he’s a guy who has some core principles. But I do sense that he’s drifted off into this alternate internet-marketing universe where “anything goes” as long as it feeds his bottom line. Everything has a price tag. Everything is an offer. Everything involves a JV. It’s just not the world where I live. Some years back, I communicated with Joel from time to time. I hired him once for a half-hour phone consult. He’s a bright guy. I just think a lot of the little things that make a business a relationship have fallen thru the cracks as he’s gotten “big and famous”. I’ve tried to unsubscribe from one of his programs and can’t get past the help desk, either. No response. No contact email is available. It’s kinda sad. But fortunately, it’s not something that involves money…so I just put up with it.

In his defense, however, I think he’s tried to do things in big and interesting ways. His reality series was a really interesting concept. I’m not a reality TV fan…but I think he was onto something. I’m not sure it connected with an audience…but I think it was a good idea…just possibly lacked something in the execution, and was probably ahead of his time. I do prefer the newer relational business model that’s developing with some of the newer folks, instead of the old model, where Joel is heavily invested.
