I wrote them multiple times requesting the ability to have standalone text links, etc. They said they didn't want people to spam them. Lame excuse. As a result, I was never compensated for a number of people who signed up on my recommendation. As far as I'm concerned, I'd rather have no referral program at all than a ham-handed implementation like the one they had in place. In my opinion, Google has never handled this right anyway.
