Not sure about AWeber, but a few years ago I had a host that got on my case because we weren't using a double opt-in method on our mailing list.

This could just be a case of following orders on one of the upstream providers. Even big hosts have an upstream provider or two.

I've seen cases where spam starts getting sent through a location and when the network admin finds out he just cuts off all traffic through their routers from that source. I know if I was in business I'd hate for that to happen to me so the best thing is to make sure the people using your service are not spamming anyone.

I would think if AWeber violated the terms of their network provider they would lose their entire business. Best to play it safe and make sure everyone plays by the rules.

AWeber is very picky. Yes, you can import addresses, but they'll all get sent a confirmation request.... so it's better to ask everyone individually to re-sign up, otherwise they'll probably just ignore the confirmation requests...

Eric,

What really shocked me is that Abhishek has to have everyone sign up for his Aweber list. Can't he just copy the list database over from his previous autoresponder company?

If that's they way autoresponders work, I may just write my own mail list program. At least I'd have control of my data!
