AdSense and Taxes

In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes. — Benjamin Franklin

If you haven't started thinking about the taxes due on your AdSense payments for 2005, now's the time to do it, before the deadlines in April (April 15 for Americans, April 30 for Canadians — I don't know when the deadlines are for other countries, but I'm assuming it's in the same general timeframe.) AdSense income is taxable in most countries that have income taxes. (Consult a local tax professional for all the details. Remember that Google tracks and reports all its payments to the IRS.)

The best way to deal with the taxes due on your earnings is to put aside a portion of those earnings each time you receive a payment. If you haven't done so, though, you should put aside the payment you just received and the next one — the last two you'll get before taxes are due. (Unless, apparently, you're Darren Rowse.)
